So, I was vending at Astronomicon 12 this past weekend, and on Sunday morning, a lady from the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle stopped by to cover the con and talked to a number of people there.

This was the result.

You can see my buttons ("Would you like to know more?") at the beginning, and I appear in my "booth outfit" at around 00.13. I think you can see some of my display behind me, too.
Is anyone still reading this?
It's thundering here right now, and poor Kerrigan is slinking around the house, belly low to the floor. She's always hated thunderstorms, poor little girl.
Just got the news that my application for a Transient Vendor Certificate in Pennsylvania has been approved! Yahoo!
A few days ago, my parents found a stray kitty cat hanging around their house. My mother called me, and I suggested finding a rescue group or shelter, as she's allergic to cats, but we both felt bad about just leaving him alone outside.

A few days ago, he didn't show up, but he came back last night. My mom had obtained some cat food from a lady on her street who rescues animals; this lady has dogs, and the kitty was afraid of them, so she couldn't take him. My mother and aunt fed him, and my mom called me up, asking what to do, this morning.

We made a few calls, and finally found a shelter that had room for him, so my aunt fed him again this morning and kept him company while my mother and I went to Petsmart to get a cardboard carrier for him (my aunt had suggested a box, but I figured the carrier might be a better idea).

We took him to the shelter, and they said they will try and find a home for him. Hopefully he'll find a nice forever home; he seems like a very nice cat.
So, I started a Facebook page for my jewelry business.

It's apparently too much to ask to have my profile picture look good on the screen. Not to mention I cannot seem to get a simpler web address for the page.

Not to mention its tendency to make everything public, the clunky user interface, and the almost constant invitations to play games I'm not all that terribly interested in (no, I don't want to play Candy Crush, thanks).

And my friends wonder why I'm almost never on FB.
C and I went to the Great Lakes Medieval Faire on Saturday. I had an absolutely fabulous time - saw some shows (I recognized some of the performers from Pittsburgh Faire), did some shopping, had some tasty food, and generally enjoyed myself.

We're definitely planning to return next year!

Progress!

So, on Memorial Day, I stained my jewelry display racks (I found an ebony wood stain at Michael's that's looking really good so far) and moved our lead miniatures down to the basement, into the plastic cabinet we bought for them. I also moved my patterns and some fabric from the chest we got from my mother-in-law into a box and the tote that used to hold some of the minis, respectively.

With that space freed up, I was able to make room for most of my jewelry-making supplies and clear off the table in the craft room. Now I have a place to work where I can leave my projects if need be, and just close the door. Yay for reduction of setup and takedown time!

It's not quite finished yet, but at this rate I will soon have a workroom!
Yuriko has a habit of running around at high speed, and sometimes she accidentally runs into doors, furniture, or her people. She seems to be all right afterward, though C quipped that "She needs a crash helmet."

Our crazy, crazy girl....
Or, "Meowranger Lavender, launch!"

A bit of explanation may be in order...C and I have been watching tokusatsu shows for a while now. Also, Yuriko's collar is lavender, and some months back, we got a cat tree for the upstairs.

One of Yuriko's favorite activities of late is to scramble to the top of the cat tree and leap down, launching herself down the hall. C quipped that the cat tree isn't a two-story robot, but maybe Yuriko likes to think it is. :)
A Happy New Year to all! May it be happy, healthy, safe and prosperous!
I'm going to try sending out holiday cards this year. If you'd like one from me, comment with your preferred mailing address.

All comments are screened.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my U.S. LJ friends!

Beadwork

Nov. 12th, 2012 09:33 am
I finished my first piece of beaded jewelry last night!

I made a beaded choker using chevron stitch with emerald green seed and bugle beads. It has a beaded loop closure that I attached later; on the next piece of jewelry, I think I may incorporate the clasp from the beginning.

Pictures of the choker forthcoming!
I've started dabbling in jewelry making, so last night [livejournal.com profile] lostsatyr and I stopped at the craft store.

I was perusing the jewelry-making aisle when another shopper struck up a conversation with me. She seemed OK at first, so I talked to her a little bit. I've gotten some good tips talking to people in that store before, so I thought this time would be no different.

I was wrong.

When she asked me what the difference between two types of pliers was, and I told her "I don't know, sorry," she responded, "Gee, thanks for your help," in a sarcastic tone, then added, "Kidding." I also saw her take a package of pliers off the display and open it right there in the aisle. *sighs*

Then she noticed the zipper pull on my hoodie (it's a bell like these) and started to examine it, remarking on how pretty it was, where had I gotten it, et cetera. I started to tell her about Neko-jin Designs, who'd made the hoodie, when she said, "Give it to me or I'll rip it off." I was floored. Maybe some of that came out in my expression, because she then added, "Kidding" again. After the "I'll rip it off" comment, though, I was taking no chances. I extricated myself from that aisle, found [livejournal.com profile] lostsatyr and stuck with him for the rest of our time in the store.

I guess there are weirdoes in every hobby.... *sigh*
(See here for Part 1)

Grazer that she is, Kerrigan normally takes a while to eat her dinner.

For the past few weeks, [livejournal.com profile] lostsatyr and I have been watching Kamen Rider OOO in the evenings. Normally, I pick up K's dinner right before we start watching, give her her calcitriol, and settle down to watch that night's episode. Sometimes Kerrigan will settle into either my or [livejournal.com profile] lostsatyr's lap and snooze during that time, though she's likely to abandon the lap if its owner laughs too hard during a funny moment (of which there are a number in KR OOO).

Late last week, [livejournal.com profile] lostsatyr started the DVD, and when Kerrigan heard the opening theme, she jumped down off the couch where she'd been napping, trotted over to her dish, and started munching again. [livejournal.com profile] lostsatyr said to me later (I'd been in the kitchen when it happened) that perhaps K was thinking, "That music! That's the signal to eat, 'cause it means Mommy will take the bowl away soon!" :)
Happy third birthday to Miss Yuriko!

Mommy loves you lots, little girl!
So, after months of being perfectly happy to sleep at the foot of our bed, Yuriko has once again taken to sleeping on my chiropractic pillow at night. I was hoping she'd given that up, but alas, that was not the case.

C and I were talking about it, and we figured it may be because it's gotten colder and the foam retains heat better. Given that kitties like to be warm, it seems a reasonable explanation.

I could do without her hogging the pillow, though...the way she likes to position herself, I can't turn my head.

My silly kitty girl....
...to [livejournal.com profile] bonusparts! Enjoy your special day!
to [livejournal.com profile] lostsatyr!

Love and wishes for many, many more from both me and the kitties, sweetie!
